Distracted by their complicated love lives and secret ambitions, three adult sisters reluctantly humor their widower father (Sihung Lung) by enduring the elaborate, traditional Taiwanese dinners he insists on having every Sunday. Ang Lee directs this charming tale that humorously examines the clash between modernity and tradition within the contemporary Taiwanese family. Yu-Wen Wang, Chien-lien [...]
(Singapore) – One of the best things when you’re pregnant is having a hubby who can cook anything you ask for. I was craving for baked pasta again, so he prepared Baked Macaroni, filled it with pumpkin and carrots, and topped it with beer battered fish. I am not only satisfying my craving, but also [...]
(Cleveland) - I am totally unfamiliar with Cleveland. I googled and found some interesting restaurants to visit but they are either far from the hotel or extremely expensive. Tired from 6-hours drive, I just wanted a familiar, reasonably priced, quick bite to replenish my energy and hopefully, show a good first impression of Cleveland to me. I [...]
It’s fascinating to see how people morphs into ferocious monsters (contenders) at the latter part of the competition. The Next Food Network Star search is a typical reality show for food lovers. The contestants are impressively creative under pressure. But I would prefer to see them stumble and fight against each other. That makes a good reality [...]
(Chicago) – I should feel guilty. I am more excited for July 4 American independence day than the June 12 Philippine Independence. While my nationalistic hunger for anything-Filipino still remains intact, I can deduce that the only reason for this is BBQ. July 4 is the perfect holiday to bring out your grill, invite friends [...]
Dinner at Tango Sur in Chicago (Southport and Grace) is always memorable. This place is not the greatest of the steakhouses of Chicago but there are many reasons why I keep coming back here; cozy ambiance, reasonably priced, humongous slices of steak, really tasty empanadas, free freshly baked bread, juicy chorizos, and on top of all, [...]
Had merienda at Conti’s in Serendra, Fort Bonifacio Manila … not a worth resto to eat merienda or snacks… steep price and small serving… dessert – HOT! food – NOT! Eron of Manila
Rick Bayless’ quick service spot, Xoco, in downtown Chicago is a must try. The tortas (sandwiches), caldos (soups) and hot chocolate are delicious and reasonably-priced. Expect a line when you come here but the service is fast enough as advertised. I love the sparkling filtered water. Mark of Chicago
Sentro @ Serendra, Fort Bonifacio Manila – super hot!!! corned beef sinigang and crispy pata are to die for! heart heart heart heart!!! Joyce of Manila
The view of the Bellagio fountain show from this French restaurant is astounding but the superb culinary creations steal the show. Try the roast duck…it’s mouth watering. Hot Hot Hot! Jeremy of Chicago
This sushi joint in Lakeview area, Chicago is overpriced for an ordinary-tasting Japanese food and the serving portions are too small. The ambiance is unremarkable and their wine glasses are like cleaned up Nescafe containers. Although it is a BYOB place, I will not come back to this place again. Mark of Chicago
I must say…. a good alternative place to hang-out in Joya-Rockwell, Makati with a pretty decent menu and a relaxed ambience. What I love best is the infusion of some local ingredients in one of their dish- a flame-grilled kesong puti on lemon, dill & EVOO was my pick, which by the way, I paired up [...]
(Cleveland) – When my Chicago friends informed me that they were going to Cleveland for a volleyball tournament, I was not very excited. “What is in Cleveland?” I asked inquisitively. I was more interested in the place, rather than the tournament. Yes, I don’t play the game but I always tag along with my friends as a supporter [...]
(Chicago) – It’s always a feast in Texas de Brazil. With elegant ambiance, bountiful salad/appetizer buffet spread, abundant selection of perfectly cooked and well-seasoned grilled meat (churrasco-style) and a mesmerizing acrobatic sommelier, 3 hours of dining just went by unnoticeably.
(New Orleans) – The Big Easy is also big in history, culture, architecture and food. Here are the snapshots of the jewels of New Orleans that I encountered and tasted while I traversed the French Quarters.
