(Chicago) - I have no interest at all in purchasing a property here in Chicago. For the past years, I was a contented renter moving around the city and exploiting the urban villages of Chicago; lesser obligations this way. Until I realized recently, how happy I make my landlords with all the money I’m throwing away at them month after month. Something’s not right, the cycle has to end.
This year, while the interest rate is dwindling and real estate is in shamble, I will be an opportunist. There’s no better time to buy a property but now. I searched, I found, I bought, I renovated and I moved. The best and most fun part of all, we partied. A few close friends joined me in warming my new tiny, yet cozy, unit and celebrating a friend’s birthday at the same time. I made a few of my favorite Spanish dishes, adapted from family and friends’ recipes; salpicado, paella and chorizo pasta. I prefer a home-cooked meal every time I host a party. It’s more gratifying personally to see my friends and family enjoy the food that I made from scratch. Not to mention the fact that it is way cheaper and tastier if I make it myself.
