(Taguig City, Philippines) – Since the growth of outsourced jobs in the country that brought night shifts to normalcy in the Philippines, most establishments have started to embrace the 24-hour operating hours: convenience
stores, fast food chains etc.
It also started the craze for night markets with Banchetto in Ortigas leading the pack. Lucky for me, The Venice Piazza in Mckinley Hill started a similar event so I do not have to travel all the way to Meralco Avenue to check out the famous night market scene.
“The Venice Piazza’s façade”
Despite the Piazza’s Italian roots, the night market was actually studded by Pinoy snacks. Yay!
“The back of The Piazza and the stalls”
“Qwek-qwek or kwek-kwek made of quail eggs in batter. Not to be confused with tokneneng which is made of chicken or duck eggs but similarly prepared.”
“Squid balls and fish balls”
“Dynamite! It’s chili in lumpia wrapper stuffed with cheese”
“Taba with a hint of laman. One of those perfect beer matches”
“Grilled coagulated chicken blood. Betamax got its name from its resemblance to the Betamax cartridges.”
“Pork isaw”

“Pork barbeque and grilled liempo”
“Shawarma. Not Pinoy but has been part of our diet/culture since the 90s.”
“Pork sisig and its supporting ingredients”
“From bottom and up: Tuna sisig, chicken sisig, grilled pork and pancit”
“Mix and match shakes. Mango, melon and banana did it for me. Solo? Duets? Trio? Or Quartet?”
“This is refreshingly good. Buko shake is the simplest yet deliciously satisfying drink in the night market.”
“Although most of the stalls sell food, some do sell cheap clothes.”
“For your accessories needs”
“Bangles and bracelets”
“Perfumes and make ups”
The night market at the Venice Piazza is there indefinitely so you better hurry and check it out before they close. The stall owners say that they open at 10 PM and close at 3 AM.
