(Singapore) – After getting off work, my cousin and I met up at Bugis Junction to have dinner at Nando’s, a recently opened franchise serving Portuguese-style flame grilled chicken or often called “Peri-peri” chicken. We tried it first in Kuala Lumpur and the memory of the delectable flavor of herbs and spices never left us. Thus we were both ecstatic when we learned that it finally dropped it’s anchors in Singapore.

If you love chicken and spicy food, then you’re in for a treat! Just a few facts about Peri-peri according to Nando’s website (excerpts from www.nandos.com.sg):

“Not only is it a treat for your taste buds, Peri-peri is also good for you. It’s been said that the rush of euphoria you get when you eat Peri-peri is actually your body releasing endorphins. Whatever it is, we know it feels fantastic! Looking for a leaner you? Chillies contain no fat, are very high in dietary fiber, have an incredibly low kilojoule count and temporarily speed up your metabolism. High in vitamin A and vitamin C, Peri-peri is also packed with antioxidants to give your immune system a boost. Studies have shown that chilies assist in reducing cholesterol and the blood thinning properties of capsaicin could help with preventing blood clots. Considering how good Peri-peri can make you feel, it’s no surprise some call it a powerful aphrodisiac! Touch Peri-peri and you play with Fire!”

For those non-spicy food lovers, do not fret, you have an option to select how hot you like your chicken to be with the aid of the peri-o-meter:
Suggestion: You can “test the waters” first by selecting Lemon & Herb or Mild Peri-peri and just add on extra sauce to make it extra hot!
Here’s what we had for dinner – which by the way, was also meant to celebrate the birthday of our loved-ones who, due to proximity, can’t celebrate with us this September
1/4 Lemon & Herb (with a teaser flag – “Not so Brave”) Chicken with 2 Sidelines (Potato Salad & Peri Chips):

Another set of 1/4 Lemon & Herb Chicken with 2 Sidelines (Mediterranean Rice & Potato Lime Leaves Skewer):

Madeira Red (our fire extinguisher!) – A sweet, fizzy, pomegranate (first time I tasted real pomengranate fruit seeds and it’s like grapes!) lemonade made with Sprite and finished with a delicious sugary rim. Sweet and simple, everyone will love it! (excerpts from Nando’s menu)

Overall, it was an exciting dinner, caused the blood to rise up to our brains! Very distinctive taste and who knew that Peri-peri can indeed be addictive?
Total Bill for 2 = S$43.80
